You've heard about the Great Blue Hole of
Belize, the most famous dive site in the world.
Now it is time to dive
it with the experts at the
Academy of Scuba! It's an experience you will treasure forever.
Let the Academy of Scuba guide
you on
your Blue Hole
Dive Adventure.
Ambergris Caye with the Academy of Scuba!
A
wise traveler to this island getaway aptly captured the atmosphere of
Ambergris Caye with “no shoes, no shirt, no problem.”
Join
the seasoned Belize travelers with the Academy of Scuba staff as we
venture to Ambergris Caye. Ambergris Caye encourages visitors to kick off
their shoes and just relax. At 36 miles long, Ambergris is the largest of
the cayes in Belize. Located in the northern-most waters of the country,
three-quarters of a mile west of the Belize Barrier Reef, the island is
surrounded by prominent dive and snorkel sites, including the Hol Chan
Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley.
The largest town on Ambergris Caye is San Pedro
with a population of about 9,000. Renowned for its barefoot lifestyle and
island vacation appeal, the primary mode of transportation on the town’s
cobblestone streets are via golf carts. While traveling with the Academy
of Scuba, you will be staying in the heart of San Pedro at the Sunbreeze
Hotel. Our dive shop is located right on site.
In the town and along the beaches to the north and
south, visitors will find an eclectic blend of restaurants, shops, funky
bars, a host of boutique hotels, and numerous condominium complexes. The
busiest of Belize’s visitor destinations, San Pedro, retains its relaxed
atmosphere and remains far from the glitz and noise of a city. A perfect
atmosphere for after diving fun!
Join the Academy of Scuba on this exciting
adventure. You can leave your shoes and shirt at home. Most importantly,
you can leave your problems too.
Dive The Great Blue Hole
About
two hours south of Ambergris Caye, Academy of Scuba’s staff will escort
you to the world famous … Blue Hole
Visible from outer space, the Blue Hole is nearly a
perfectly circular hole, 1,000 feet in diameter and 412 feet deep.
Popularized by a Jacques Cousteau television special in the 1970’s, this
has become the most famous dive site in all of Belize - one that avid
divers put on their “life list” of places to dive.
Notable Features
Ringed by coral, which makes for great snorkeling,
the base of this fringing reef gradually slopes to 50 feet, then with
sheer walls adorned with stalactites and stalagmites, it drops to a ledge
between 120-150 ft.
In combination with the Blue Hole dive, we will
also visit the spectacular dive spots in the Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe
Atoll areas, including a stop at a deserted island for lunch.
